Fees and finances

Undergraduate course fees are charged per year. The following tuition fees for UK students apply to the academic year starting 2024. These fees may change for future years. 

Please note that fee thresholds are determined by UK government policy and are subject to annual review. If you’re considering applying to study at NMITE in subsequent years, fees will be confirmed and published on our website in the months leading up to each recruitment/admissions period. 

BEng (Hons) Integrated Engineering

3-year duration: £9,000 per year 

MEng (Hons) Integrated Engineering (Accelerated)

3-year duration: £10,800 per year

BSc (Hons) Sustainable Built Environment 

3-year duration: £9,000 per year 

Foundation Year

1-year duration: £9,000 per year, followed by the relevant tuition fees of your degree (see above)

f you're from the UK, you can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan from the UK Government to cover your NMITE tuition fees and living costs. You’ll need to pay these back in instalments once you’re earning above the threshold amount.  

Note, the below information applies to the academic year starting 2024. These fees may change for future years. 

• Tuition Fee Loan: for UK students to cover the cost of tuition fees. The sum offered is up to £9,250/year.  The Tuition Fee loan is available regardless of family income. 
•  Maintenance Loan: to help UK students pay for living costs, for example, rent, food, books, travel, and other expenses.  Up to £9,703 per year 

Check if you’re eligible for these loans, find out how much you can get, how to apply and when you start repaying on the UK Government website.  You don't need to have a confirmed place at NMITE to apply for your student finance. Applications can be made online on the UK Government website. 

Repayment of student loans 

The earliest you’ll start to repay your student loan is on 6 April the year after you finish your course. And you don’t start repayments until you’re earning over a specific amount. Your repayments will come straight out of your pay (you’ll see them in your payslip). But if your earnings drop below the threshold, you’ll stop paying. Discover more on the UK Government website.  

Paying your fees  

Paying with a Tuition Fee Loan: If you’re registered with the Student Loans Company and in receipt of a student loan, NMITE will have collected this information as part of your enrolment process and will collect your fees directly from them.

Paying your fees  

If you’re a self-funding student, or a sponsored student, you must arrange to pay your fees directly to us. You can do this as part of the application process. You’ll make your first payment as soon as you’re fully enrolled as as an NMITE student; we’ll issue your first invoice approximately 30 days prior to your enrolment date. Subsequent fee payments will be sent approximately 30 days before their due date, and notification will be sent to you that an invoice has been generated.  

Your invoice will be sent to you at your registered address. Once you have received your invoice, you or a third party can: 

• pay in full, following payment instructions on the invoice, using bank transfer 
• set up an instalment payment programme. If you choose to pay in instalments, ensure whoever is paying knows when the payment dates are so that they don’t fall into arrears

Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) 

If you have a disability, long-term health condition, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty (such as dyslexia) you may be eligible for the Disabled Students’ Allowance. This is for study-related requirements, such as access to specialist equipment, non-medical helpers, extra travel or other disability-related costs of studying. 

Childcare Grant

You may be eligible for a Childcare Grant to help with your childcare costs if you: are a full-time higher education student; have children under 15, or under 17 if they have special educational needs.  

Parents' Learning Allowance

You may be eligible for help with your learning costs if you’re a full-time student with children. This is called Parents’ Learning Allowance. 

Adult Dependants' Grant

If you’re a full-time student in higher education and an adult depends on you financially, you can apply for an Adult Dependants’ Grant. 

Funding from charitable trusts may also be available. Use the Turn2us grant search to check whether you qualify. 

Please note that while you may apply for more than one financial award, you can only be in receipt of one. Plus bursaries and scholarships cannot be deferred. 

Our scholarships and bursaries are payable only to Registered Students at NMITE. They are applied as credit towards tuition or accommodation fees. 

You can apply for as many scholarships and bursaries as you like, but you can only be in receipt of one at a time unless specified otherwise. If you are successful for multiple scholarships and bursaries, you can choose which one you would like to accept.

NMITE Life Changer Bursary 

A multi-year cash bursary that offers transformative financial support to individuals from Herefordshire, or who have been educated in Herefordshire. This bursary is open to new NMITE students on all undergraduate programmes who are not yet registered, and who would be seeking to enrol in September 2024. 

Bursary level per individual 

Up to £10,000 cash over the duration of your study. For those studying on the BEng (Hons) Integrated Engineering (fast-track), the maximum award is capped at £7,000. Details as follows: 

• £1,000 allocated two weeks after the start of your programme, including full engagement of Welcome Week activities. 
• Further payments awarded as you progress through your studies  
• Quantity available for September 2024: 30 

Bursary eligibility criteria 

To be considered for the NMITE Life Changer Bursary, applicants must: 

• be joining as a new NMITE student in September 2024 
• have accepted a formal offer on one of NMITE’s undergraduate programmes (either as firm or insurance choice if applying through UCAS) AND 
• have lived within Herefordshire (Herefordshire postcode) for the previous two years or have been educated at a Herefordshire education institution for at least the previous two years (school or college). 

Application and selection process 

1. Make an application to study at NMITE through UCAS (or directly through our website).  
2. You’ll be notified if your application to study at NMITE is successful and made a formal offer of a place in the September 2024 intake. At this stage, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for relevant financial awards. 
3. To apply for Life Changer Bursary, you must formally accept your offer (as either a Firm or Insurance acceptance) and then submit the evidence detailed below as soon as possible. 
4. Please email your application to bursaries@nmite.ac.uk by 5pm on Thursday 6 June 2024 at the latest, but note that these bursaries are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. 
5. Your application will be submitted to our Financial Awards Committee who will make a decision based on the information supplied. 
6. You’ll be notified of the decision within 20 working days of your application. 
7. You must have formally enrolled on to your programme at NMITE to receive the funds following an award of the bursary. 
8. If you choose to accept the bursary, you will be asked to sign a Financial Award Agreement and agree to the Terms and Conditions of the bursary. 

Evidence 

Sufficient evidence to demonstrate that you, as an NMITE applicant, meet the following criteria will be required.  

Application closing date  

5pm on Thursday 6 June 2024

A high-value bursary to support accommodation or fees, offering a fantastic opportunity to Herefordshire-based individuals who might not otherwise come into higher education. This bursary is open to new NMITE students. 

Bursary level per individual 

• Up to £9,000 per year of study 
• The bursary will be applied as credit towards tuition fees or accommodation 
• Quantity available: 2 

Bursary criteria 

To be considered for the Engineer in Herefordshire Bursary, applicants must: 

• hold a formal offer to study at NMITE and be joining NMITE as a new student in September 2024 AND 
• have lived within Herefordshire (Herefordshire postcode) for over five years; AND 
• meet at least one of the following criteria: 
• have a household income less than or equal to £25,000 per annnum 
• be the first in their family to access higher education 
• be receiving free school meals 
• have caring responsibilities   
• be care-experienced, eg. have lived in public care or as a looked-after child, including with foster carers under local authority, in a residential children’s home, or have been adopted after being in care 
• be able to otherwise demonstrate financial hardship and social disadvantage 

Application and selection process

10. You’ll be notified if your application to study at NMITE is successful. At this stage, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for relevant bursaries and scholarships.   
11. To apply for the Engineer in Herefordshire Bursary, you must write a personal statement of up to 500 words outlining your current financial circumstances and the difference this bursary will make to you. 
12. You must also submit the additional evidence detailed below. 
13. Please email your application to bursaries@nmite.ac.uk by 5pm on Thursday 6 June 2024 at the latest, but note that these bursaries are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. 
14. Your application will be submitted to the Financial Awards Committee who will make a decision based on the information supplied. 
15. You’ll be notified of the decision within one week of the closing date. 
16. You must have formally enrolled on to your course at NMITE in order to be awarded the bursary. 
17. If you choose to accept the bursary, you’ll be asked to sign a Financial Award Agreement and agree to the Terms and Conditions of the bursary.

This generous cash scholarship supports women pursuing a degree in Integrated Engineering at NMITE. The aim is to provide more opportunities for women in engineering education – helping to address the current underrepresentation in the field. This scholarship is open to all UK-based and international females. 

Rationale for scholarship 

Women account for only 16.5% of the engineering workforce in the UK. This gender gap originates at a much earlier stage, with low levels of female representation within STEM subjects being seen at A-level and in higher education. In 2017, only 15% of engineering undergraduates in the UK were women, and in 2021 only 23% of students starting A-level Physics were female. 

Central to NMITE’s mission is to train engineers from different walks of life so that the sector better reflects society. By recruiting a wider diversity of undergraduate engineers with greater gender representation, we can deliver creative thinking for engineering solutions to the world’s problems. 

Scholarship level per individual 

£5,000 in cash for the first year of study to be awarded in two instalments in the first year of study. 

• £1,000 in September 2024 
• £4,000 in November 2024 
• Quantity available: 4 

Scholarship criteria 

To be considered for the Motorola Solutions Foundation Scholarship, applicants must: 

• be a woman
• be joining as a new student at NMITE for the September 2024 intake for an Integrated Engineering degree at BEng or MEng level 
• Note, students studying the NMITE Foundation Year are not eligible 

Application process 

• Make an application to study at NMITE through UCAS (or directly through our website). 
• You’ll be notified if your application to study at NMITE is successful and made a formal offer of a place for the September intake. 
• To be eligible for the scholarship, you must tell us that you are female, or that you identify as a female.   
• You can apply by submitting a short statement (500 words or less) about how the Motorola Solutions Foundation Scholarship will enable you to make an impact on an engineering issue that is important to you 
• Please email your application to bursaries@nmite.ac.uk by 5pm on Thursday 6 June 2024. 
• You may be invited to a panel interview should the scholarship applications be high. 
• Your application will be submitted to the Financial Awards Committee who will make a decision based on the information supplied. 
• You’ll be formally notified in writing about your scholarship. You must have formally enrolled on to your course at NMITE for the scholarship to be activated. 
• If you choose to accept the scholarship, you’ll be asked to sign a Financial Award Agreement and agree to the Terms and Conditions of the scholarship. 

Closing date 

5pm on Thursday 6 June 2024 

• Make an application to study at NMITE through UCAS (or our website). Some scholarships and bursaries specify a deadline for this, so do read the information carefully. 
• You will be notified if your application to study at NMITE is successful. At this stage, you will be notified about any scholarships and bursaries that are available for you to apply for.  
• You may be required to complete an additional application for your chosen scholarship or bursary. 
• You will be notified about the outcome of your application within one week of the deadline, and you can choose whether or not to accept it. 
• If you accept the scholarship or bursary, you must register to study at NMITE before the course start date to be eligible to receive payment. 
• You will be asked to sign a financial award agreement. 
• Leave the rest to us – we’ll disperse your financial award on the specified payment dates.
