Abdal is an experienced Electrical and Electronic Engineering lecturer with a robust academic background, including a BSc, MSc, and PhD. With extensive industry and teaching experience, Abdal has a deep practical research knowledge of grid-connected PV systems and significant expertise in designing control algorithms for embedded real-time systems using Matlab/Simulink/C. At Newcastle College University Centre, Abdal led the BEng (Hons) Electrical Electronic Engineering program, developing and delivering a range of innovative teaching techniques, supervising research projects, and contributing to curriculum development.
Abdal’s academic journey includes a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Newcastle University, where they focused on improving power quality in single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic systems. His research involved constructing and testing a five-level grid-connected PV inverter system, utilising Matlab/Simulink and LabVIEW for simulations and control development. Beyond academia, Abdal has held various research and engineering roles, including at the University of Aberdeen and the University of Sheffield, where they worked on energy storage systems and DC railway networks.
Abdal holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and has achieved Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). He is a Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and actively contribute to the development of educational standards as a City & Guilds T-Level Author, Scrutineer, and Examiner, as well as a T-Level Electrical and Electronic Moderator. Additionally, Abdal serves as a Pearson Education Examiner and a Higher National External Examiner. Abdal's diverse skill set and dedication to teaching and research make them a valuable addition to NMITE’s faculty.
