More than academic achievements

Are you curious? A natural problem solver? Passionate about making a difference? If so we want to hear from you. We consider all applicants as individuals, looking for qualities that we know will make you an exceptional professional. Maths and physics at A-level are not essential, as we'll teach you what you need to know and we also accept applications from those with prior relevant experience.

The application process

Like most universities you can apply to NMITE through UCAS. But we also accept applications directly via our website, at any time of year. So if you haven't made your decision by the UCAS deadline, or you’ve had a change of heart from your initial choices, you can still submit an application to NMITE (before the Clearing rush). We don’t charge application fees, so that’s a bonus too!

1. Choose your degree

  • Read the website course page to find the right course for you.
  • Check out our open events and contact us if you want to arrange an independent visit.
  • Get in touch with our admissions team with any questions you have ( – make the most of our website live chat function.

2. Check the entry requirements

Our degrees may be more accessible than you think. We welcome applicants who have followed both mainstream and alternative education pathways, as well as those with different employment experience.

A-levels in maths and physics are not required since these elements will be available (where appropriate and as required) to students as part of NMITE’s interdisciplinary engineering curriculum. Of course, we welcome students who have studied maths and physics too – our community benefits from students from a diverse range of backgrounds.

You’ll find entry requirements for international and UK-based students on our undergraduate course pages. Don’t forget to check the English language requirements too. You can also discover more via the link below.

3. Visit us

The best way to find out if we’re the right fit for you is to experience us first-hand. We offer plenty of open events throughout the year, so get yourself booked on. And if you’re an international student or struggling to make one of the dates, get in touch to arrange a bespoke visit instead.

4. Write a stand-out personal statement

Your personal statement is your opportunity to share your strengths, which we’ll delve further into at applicant interviews. We want to get to know you as the individual you are. Your academic history is just one facet of you.

Are you a creative thinker and a natural problem solver? Do you want to develop the expertise to make a difference in the world? Are you eager to learn in a new and exciting way – the NMITE way?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then tell us more about it. It’s likely you’re ready to become a work-ready engineer with NMITE.

5. Complete and submit your application

There are two ways to apply to NMITE - start your NMITE adventure today.

Applying through UCAS

Applying directly to NMITE

Register an account on the NMITE website. Once you’ve registered, you’ll be asked to complete our simple application form. Please try to provide as much information about yourself as possible as we want to hear about the valuable knowledge and experiences you have gained which will enable you to succeed at NMITE.

What happens next

Once we receive your application, we'll assess your academic potential based on your qualifications, grades and your statement to find out more about you as an individual and your motivation for studying at NMITE.

We may contact you if you haven’t provided sufficient information in your application or personal statement. The academic team may wish to invite you to complete a one-to-one interview to understand your passion and potential for studying your chosen programme.

If English is not your first language, we'll ask you to provide evidence of English language proficiency (typically an IELTS certificate).

If you're applying without formal qualifications but have relevant experiential learning of at least three years, your application will be considered through the Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) procedure. Once we receive your application, we will ask you to provide a portfolio and supporting evidence.

By registering an account, you're giving consent for NMITE to process the information you provide in accordance with NMITE’s Privacy Notice for Enquirers and Applicants.  A printable Quick Guide to NMITE’s Application Process is available here

Applicants will receive written communication from the admissions team following each stage of the process by the timescales provided in NMITE’s Admissions Policy.

6. Selection process

After you have submitted your application we evaluate your suitability for your programme of choice, taking into consideration your education history – academic and language qualifications, and written statement.

Overall, this is to assess your academic potential, motivation, and core skills for studying your chosen programme and to establish if you have the potential to be a successful, contributing member of our community.

If your application is successful, you'll be issued with a formal offer letter. You'll also be invited to an open day where you will meet NMITE staff and other applicants and find out more about NMITE’s unique, highly collaborative setting.
