Associate Professor

Steve Bertasso joined NMITE from across the globe, bringing over 25 years of experience in the construction industry. His professional background includes roles in project management, purchasing, quantity surveying, and consulting, with a particular focus on sustainability and process improvement. After 2009, he worked as a consultant, helping organisations implement strategic initiatives and sustainable building programmes across various sectors.

Over a decade ago, Steve was diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, a progressive neurological condition that affects mobility and speech. This experience has significantly shaped his perspective on inclusion and accessibility within the construction sector. As a disabled professional, he brings valuable insight into the barriers faced by under-represented groups in construction. He passionately advocates integrating these considerations into industry practice and education.

Now based in academia, Steve leads the construction industry-focused professional development courses and teaches on NMITE’s BSc in Construction Management. He is dedicated to embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into construction engineering education. He uses his industry background and personal experience to develop more inclusive pedagogical approaches and course content.
