PRIDE Month: The virtual celebrations you need to know about

Every year, during the month of June (chosen because that is when the Stonewall Riots took place back in 1969) the LGBTQ+ community celebrates Pride in a number of different ways. Despite celebrations looking a little different this year due to the global pandemic, Pride will still march on (virtually) throughout June!

Two of the UK’s biggest pride events, in both London and Manchester may have been cancelled, but there are still plenty of ways to get involved with the month’s activities. Here’s how to embrace Pride 2020 in a virtual (and safe) way!

Pride Inside

Amnesty International has joined forces with UK Black Pride, Stonewall and ParaPride to bring this year’s Pride celebrations completely online. The virtual celebration will be dubbed Pride Inside and will see artists, musicians, comedians, DJs and activists come together for a series of performances, talks and workshops honouring the LGBTQ+ community. The events will begin on Sunday 28th June and run until Sunday 5th July.

Share your story of allyship

What does support within the LGBTQ+ community mean to you? Pride in London are asking members of the LGBTQ+ community to get involved with their theme of #YouMeUsWe by sharing ‘a story of a time you felt queer allyship.’

Click here to share your story. Pride in London will be sharing the stories across their social media channels, emails and website to show the world that the LGBTQ+ community is together and stronger than ever before.

Bi-Fi Festival

On the 20th June, Bi Pride UK are hosting their second Bi Pride event, Bi-Fi Festival! Bi Pride UK understands that between ‘gay’ and ‘straight’ are many shades of attraction beyond gender and seeks to create spaces for anyone who falls into that spectrum or are exploring the thought of which.

Streaming on Twitch, this virtual event will be a celebration of bi voices. Tune in to watch thought-provoking discussion panels and enjoy entertainment from a diverse array of performers. Then turn the volume up for a DJ’ed After Party!

Further details are being released throughout the month and can be found here.

Global Pride 2020

On Saturday 27th June, Pride organisations from across the world will celebrate Global Pride 2020. With musical and artistic performances, speeches from activists and campaigners, and addresses by public figures, they will stream 24 hours of content that reflects and celebrates the beautiful diversity of LGBTQ+ people everywhere.

Global Pride will be live-streamed, and they’ll be announcing shortly the platform on which you can find the full celebration. Until then, you can sign up to the event on Facebook to ensure you get all the updates.
