So, you’ve attended a university open day. You asked the questions, toured the facilities, maybe picked up some complimentary lunch (definitely the case at NMITE) - and now you're wondering… What’s next?
Open days are a great way to explore your options, but making the most of them comes after the visit. Whether you visited NMITE or another university, this checklist will help you reflect, compare, and move one step closer to making the right decision for your future.
1. Write down what stood out
While the day’s still fresh in your mind, jot down your initial thoughts. What impressed you? What didn’t? Did you feel comfortable on campus? Could you see yourself living there?
💬 Ask yourself:
- What was the vibe like?
- Did I connect with the staff or students I met?
- Did the course structure suit my learning style?
If you visited NMITE, maybe it was the hands-on projects, small teams, or the lack of lecture halls that stood out. Capture those first reactions - they’re often the most honest.
2. Compare your options
If you’ve been to multiple open days (or are planning more), create a simple side-by-side comparison. Consider:
- Course content and teaching style
- Location and accommodation
- Support services and student life
- Graduate outcomes and employer links
👉 Remember: Bigger doesn’t always mean better. At NMITE for example, our smaller size means more one-to-one support, more time with academic staff, and more real-world experience from day one.
3. Follow up with any questions
Did something come up on the way home that you forgot to ask? Don’t hesitate to reach out. Most universities (including us!) are happy to chat, whether it’s about modules, entry requirements, student support, or anything in between.
📩 You can contact NMITE’s friendly admissions team at admissions@nmite.ac.uk.
4. Reflect on your goals
What do you actually want from your university experience? Is it flexibility? Hands-on learning? A fast-track route into a career you care about?
➡️ At NMITE, our goal is to get you industry-ready, sooner. With no traditional exams, no lectures, and real projects built into every module, we’ve redesigned engineering education to focus on what really works.
5. Think practically
It’s not just about the course - it’s about your life.
- How far is the campus from home?
- Can you picture yourself living in that city?
- What are the accommodation and living costs?
- Are there financial support options or bursaries?
💡 Did you know? At NMITE, we offer accommodation guarantees, cost-of-living support, and our unique STEPS programme – designed to guide you personally and professionally from day one.
6. Take your time - but not too long
Once you’ve done your research and followed up, take a moment to sit with your options. But don’t wait forever. If you’re applying through UCAS or Clearing, there are key deadlines to keep in mind.
NMITE also accepts direct applications — so if you’re ready, you don’t have to wait on UCAS. You can apply directly through our website, and our team will be on hand to guide you through the next steps.
