Dr. Hitt joined NMITE as Founding Professor of Liberal Studies in 2019. Since then, she’s served in various roles including Transferable Skills Lead for the Centre for Advanced Timber Technologies. She is also Visiting Professor in the School of Computing, Engineering, and the Built Environment at Edinburgh Napier University.
Prior to joining NMITE she was at the Colorado School of Mines where she was the Director of the Writing Center, Director of the McBride Honors Program in Public Affairs, and Founding Director of a First Year Program designed to bring the arts into ethical engineering design and to recruit diverse students to engineering. While serving as lead for a module called “Nature and Human Values”, it received an “Exemplar in Engineering Ethics Education” award from the National Academy of Engineering.
Dr. Hitt was project manager for the Engineering Professors’ Council’s Ethics, Sustainability, and Complex Systems Toolkits. She has led national and international workshops on interdisciplinary learning and teaching and has worked with advocacy and industry partners on embedding place-based and experiential learning within engineering education. She has recently authored chapters for the International Handbook of Engineering Education Research and the International Handbook of Engineering Ethics Education.
