Women make up just 16.5% of UK engineers — the lowest in Europe. That’s not just a statistic, it’s a call to action.
EmpowerHER tackles inequality head-on by challenging outdated assumptions, removing barriers to study, and building an engineering education where everyone belongs — and thrives.
Engineering That Makes a Difference
We’ve designed our Engineering degrees to reflect the real-world impact many women are looking for — from creating new technologies and improving medical devices to developing sustainable solutions.
But EmpowerHER isn’t just about boosting numbers. It’s about driving lasting cultural change, equipping the next generation of engineers to lead with purpose, and ensuring no talent is left behind.
Female applications to NMITE are up 177% this year — and we’re just getting started.

“Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world.”
- Hillary Clinton
Why does it matter?
Redefining who becomes an engineer - and how.
We believe engineering needs all kinds of minds. That’s why we’ve removed A-level Maths and Physics as entry requirements. Through tailored academic support like our ASK Centre and inclusive admissions, we welcome learners from diverse academic routes - including those who never thought engineering was for them.

Supporting women in engineering benefits everyone.
We’re working to:
- Remove systemic barriers in education and the workplace
- Provide lasting mentorship and career pathways
- Build a more inclusive and innovative engineering workforce
With your support, we can reach more young women, fund more scholarships, and ensure NMITE continues to lead by example.
