NMITE announces courses to help local entrepreneurs in 2020

New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE), located in Hereford, which is working towards transforming engineering higher education, starts 2020 with the continuation of its successful programme of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) training with the introduction of two new workshops: Business Start Up and Career Transition.

Both Business Start Up and Career Transition reflect NMITE’s ongoing aim to fulfill a learner’s potential, enhancing value to industry, community, society and economy and have been designed for anyone that may have a simple business concept that they would like to develop or for anyone requiring the confidence to develop the ‘Brand of You’.  Business Start Up covers a range of topics including how to set a vision, mission and values, the value proposition, marketing, networking and funding and the Career Transition Workshop includes CV writing, behavioural profiling, how to make an impact in 60 seconds and interview practice.

NMITE’s visiting professional, Rachel Carr of Business Checkmate, based in Hereford, has co-ordinated both Business Start Up and Career Transition. Carr is a proven and commended senior business leader who has worked for many years at board level within blue chip corporate organisations. She has a proven pedigree in helping fledgling businesses achieve rapid and sustainable business growth inclusive of winning the Government funded Growth Accelerator outstanding growth coach accolade.

Carr explains her advice to would-be entrepreneurs is to “Start with the end in mind as a good business vision will act as the shining beacon of light to help guide all your entrepreneurial endeavours. In addition, surround yourself with brilliant people and hang out with businesses who are getting it right because good energy is catching and it is both inspirational and insightful to submerge yourself in good business.”

Samantha Lewis, Head of HR (People and Culture) at NMITE, says “It was a really rewarding part of NMITE’s growth and progression in 2019 to have launched a number of successful CPD courses including Lean Manufacturing and Defence & Security. We’ve seen tremendous support from the local business community and attendees and are looking forward to an even busier 2020 in terms of number of courses we will deliver.”

The Business Start Up course was piloted in December and included a case study presented by Guy Batchelor from Minerva Elite who started his own business when transitioning from the forces. The session received some great feedback including:

  • I found the course to be of real benefit and has given me the confidence I feel to move forward with my business venture.
  • Well worth attending even if you are not sure of your intentions.
  • Easy step by step guidance. A well-run and presented course.
  • Most importantly this course has given me the confidence to go forward with my business plan.

Both courses are run as two-day workshops (9 – 4.30pm) and can be held either at a company’s site or at NMITE’s Gardner Hall building.
