A new fully funded Spectra Group Bursary will cover tuition fees and project costs for one NMITE engineering student, helping support the next generation of UK engineering talent.
A talented future engineer could have their entire degree funded thanks to a new bursary launched by Herefordshire-based defence communications specialist Spectra Group.
The new Spectra Group Bursary will cover academic fees and project costs for one student joining NMITE in September 2026, providing full financial support throughout their three-year engineering degree.
The bursary has been created to help remove financial barriers to higher education while supporting the development of the next generation of engineers, innovators and problem-solvers.
Based in Herefordshire, Spectra Group designs and delivers mission-ready communications systems used by defence and security organisations around the world. Its technologies enable secure and resilient communications in some of the most demanding operational environments.
The launch comes at an exciting time for NMITE and the wider engineering sector. Earlier this month, NMITE secured significant government investment to expand student places, strengthen facilities and support skills development linked to the UK's future engineering and defence capabilities.
Together, these investments highlight a growing commitment from both government and industry to develop the engineers, technologists and innovators the UK will need in the years ahead.
Simon Davies, CEO of Spectra Group UK, said:
"At Spectra, we believe engineering is ultimately about solving real-world problems under pressure. Supporting future engineers is an investment not only in individuals, but in the resilience, innovation and technical capability the UK will need for decades to come.
"We are proud to support NMITE and help create opportunities for talented students here in Herefordshire and beyond."
NMITE's hands-on approach to engineering education focuses on real-world challenges, industry projects and employer engagement, helping students develop the practical skills, experience and professional confidence needed to succeed in modern engineering careers.
James Newby, Chief Executive of NMITE, said:
"This bursary represents a fantastic opportunity for a future engineer to access a life-changing education without the financial barriers that can sometimes stand in the way.
"We're incredibly grateful to Spectra Group for their support. Partnerships like this demonstrate the vital role industry can play in developing the talent pipeline that will drive innovation, strengthen UK capability and help tackle some of society's biggest challenges."
The Spectra Group Bursary will be awarded to a student who demonstrates strong academic potential, commitment to completing their studies, and an understanding of the important role engineering plays in supporting critical national capability.
The bursary is open to students who have accepted an offer to study at NMITE and are ordinarily resident in the UK.
The Spectra Group Bursary will cover the full cost of tuition fees and project costs for the duration of a student's degree programme at NMITE.
Students interested in applying can find full eligibility criteria and application details on the NMITE bursaries webpage.
